Los valores medios de IMC fueron
significativamente (p<0,05) más altos
en hombres obesos en comparación con
mujeres obesas en la edad adulta temprana
y significativamente más altos en mujeres
obesas en comparación con hombres
obesos en la edad adulta media (Tabla 2).
Sin embargo, en la edad adulta avanzada, el
valor medio del IMC de los hombres obesos
no fue significativamente diferente del de las
mujeres obesas.
En la Tabla 2 comparan los valores medios
del IMC y de la circunferencia de la cintura
en las categorías de personas de edad
adulta temprana, media y avanzada. Los
valores medios de la circunferencia de la
cintura en hombres y mujeres obesos y con
sobrepeso fueron significativamente más
altos que los de las personas de peso normal
en todas las categorías de edad. Aunque a
diferencia de los valores de IMC, los valores
medios de circunferencia de la cintura de
hombres y mujeres con bajo peso no fueron
significativamente diferentes de los de peso
normal.
La frecuencia en porcentajes de las
distribuciones del IMC en las diferentes
categorías de edad, se presenta en la Figura 2.
La prevalencia de personas con peso normal
se observó en la edad adulta temprana y
avanzada, mientras que el sobrepeso fue
prevalente en la edad adulta media.
