Development of intestinal malignancies in patients with poor management of celiac disease in Latin America.

Abstract

A desk study was conducted with the objective of analyzing the relationship between the development of intestinal neoplasms in patients and the poor management of celiac disease in Latin America. This constitutes a major problem for the health field due to the high rates of lethality, morbidity and mortality, which is why it is important to disclose the different factors that cause complications and deaths belonging to this clinical manifestation. Therefore, the need to deepen the main aspects of nutritional, clinical and family care is justified in order to increase the patient's quality of life and therefore the survival rate of patients carrying this disease. The search for information was carried out through the Scielo database, obtaining 30 articles published in Spanish as of 2010, whose central topic was the celiac disease. In conclusion, it is evident that lymphomas or intestinal neoplasms are frequent in patients with celiac disease, due to the difficulty in maintaining adherence to a gluten-free diet, which is considered the most effective treatment of these patients.
