Abstract

Cotton yields in Ecuador are low, one of the causes is the lack of genetic material and production technology, for this reason the National Institute of Agriculture Research of Ecuador introduced from Brazil the variety BRS-336. In this field experiment it was tested the performance of this new variety under local agronomic management. Factors evaluated were seedling rate (62 500 and 50 000 plants ha-1), cotton varieties (DP-Acala 90 and BRS-336) and crop management programs (INIAP technology and conventional technology), deployed in a Split-Split Plot Design, with four blocks. Variables evaluated were: occurrence of pests and natural enemies, incidence of diseases, percentage of germination, plant height, length of internodes (cm), number of productive branches/plant, days to the opening of the first flower and the first cotton boll, number of bolls per plant and  cotton yield in branch (kg ha-1). The variety BRS-336, behaved in a very similar way in agronomic and productivity aspects, to the local variety DP-Acala 90. Use of the INIAP technology crop management program was determinant for yield increasing.
