Relationship between anemia and oral pathologies in children aged 2 to 3 years in a rural Ecuadorian parish

In the present study, the objective was to determine the relationship between anemia and oral pathologies in children from 2 to 3 years old belonging to the El Valle parish, Ecuador. A quantitative approach was applied of correlational scope, with a non-experimental, prospective and cross-sectional field design. The sample the sample consisted of 91 children from 2 to 3 years old who attend the Children's Centers of Good Living (CIBV) of the parish of El Valle, who were recorded sociodemographic and Hematological examinations by means of a personalized form of report of findings of the Infants, for the taking of oral data a diagnostic set was used, a low language that were registered in a data collection form. The tabulation of the results was carried out in the statistical program SPSS version 15 through the analysis of tables of absolute and relative frequencies, as well as statistical inference presented by the Pearson test. 38.5% of the study population has hemoglobin values between 8.04 and 10.09, with 45.1% of children with anaemia. The oral pathology in this study with the highest prevalence were caries lesions with 61.5%, glossitis in second place with a prevalence of 13.2% and gingivitis to a lesser extent with 12.1%. After a statistical analysis between the hemoglobin values and the number of cavities, a significant inverse correlation was obtained, therefore, statistically it could be affirmed that, at lower hemoglobin values, the greater number of cavities.
