Abstract

The arterial polygon at the base of the brain is named after the man who described it in detail in 1664, Thomas Willis. And it was Christopher Wren's drawings that captured the original representation of its anatomy. However, centuries earlier there was already an incomplete idea of the description of the Willis Circle, going back to 335 b.C. when Herophilus of Chalcedon called it a "marvelous network"; and later even Galen, although full of faith and mysticism, spoke about how he believed that the blood transported the spirits from the heart to this network of vessels where they were transformed. The purpose of this work is to expose the anatomical relevance of Willis Circle, its variants or malformations, as well as to understand the effect that these may have on the functional capacity and quality of life of the patient. In conclusion, based on the timely diagnosis of hypoplasia of the two communicating arteries, a therapeutic approach was carried out with the help of cerebral vasodilators and follow-up, with good clinical response.
