Sociocultural factors influencing compliance with the inmunization schedule in pediatric populations

Abstract

Over the years, a decline in vaccination coverage has been observed, leading to various consequences for public health. Public uncertainty regarding the necessity of vaccines, distrust of potential adverse events, the spread of misinformation, and certain philosophical and religious beliefs have all contributed to growing doubts about the importance of immunization. The objective of this study was to identify the sociocultural factors that influence adherence to the immunization schedule in pediatric populations. Among the main factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy are family economic difficulties, low parental education levels, cultural and religious beliefs, personal and political attitudes, and fear of possible side effects, among others. Therefore, immunization program administrators and healthcare personnel must be trained to effectively recognize and address vaccine-related concerns in order to achieve greater acceptance and adherence to vaccination schedules.
