Abstract

Basal cell carcinoma is one of the most common non-melanoma skin cancers in older adults. Although it presents a low metastasis rate, it can cause significant functional, aesthetic, and psychological consequences, particularly when it affects visible areas such as the face. This study describes the nursing care provided to a 66-year-old patient with basal cell carcinoma of the nasal tip and dorsum, who underwent reconstructive surgery using a rotational flap and skin graft. A qualitative analysis of the clinical case was conducted applying the Nursing Care Process (NCP) in five stages: assessment using Marjorie Gordon's functional health patterns, diagnosis based on NANDA taxonomy, planning grounded in NOC outcomes and NIC interventions, implementation of care during hospitalization, and final evaluation of clinical results. Four priority nursing diagnoses were identified: impaired skin integrity, acute pain, risk of infection, and risk of ineffective tissue perfusion. The implemented interventions supported a positive clinical progression, evidenced by restoration of tissue integrity, effective pain management, adequate graft vascularization, and absence of postoperative infectious complications. The findings align with recent studies highlighting the effectiveness of care plans based on standardized taxonomies. In conclusion, comprehensive and individualized nursing care, structured through the NCP and grounded in scientific evidence, contributed to the patient's clinical and emotional recovery, and underscores the importance of continuous postoperative follow-up and self-care education as key strategies for preventing complications.
