The universities of Manabí in the national ranking of higher education institutions in Ecuador

The positioning of the universities of the province of Manabí in national and international rankings during the last 15 years is studied. The objective was to identify trends of improvement or regression, contrast relative performance with other regions and draw conclusions from educational policy. The methodological procedure associates review analyses of national metrics, documents belonging to QS Scimago and UniRank. The findings indicate that some institutions in Manabí have achieved moderate improvements in terms of visibility, but continue to lag behind other university institutions in Quito and Guayaquil. The Technical University of Manabí is positioned more frequently in the rankings; Meanwhile, other universities in the province maintain an intermittent presence. It is concluded that it is necessary to strengthen research, publication and cooperation processes to consolidate a better position
