Abstract: In this research paper, the difference between ethics and morality was examined from an academic perspective. The etymological origins of both terms were explored, and their evolution throughout history was analyzed. It was emphasized that ethics refers to the branch of philosophy that studies morality, while morality relates to customs and ways of living. The branches of deontology and axiology were discussed as part of the study of ethics. The importance of ethical values as guides for behavior was highlighted, and their application in various professions, particularly in the field of healthcare, was examined. A systematic review of the scientific literature was conducted to identify ethical codes and moral principles in different countries. The documents of international organizations were emphasized, and an example of ethical codes in Ecuador was presented. The conclusion was drawn that promoting ethical reflection and establishing moral principles in various professions is necessary to guide behavior and contribute to societal well-being. In summary, this paper provides an overview of ethics and morality, emphasizing their significance in academic and professional contexts. The need to foster ethical reflection and apply moral principles in different contexts is underscored, aiming to guide behavior ethically and promote the common good.
