The dynamics between social skills and alcohol consumption in adolescents has always shown interest from the scientific community, especially since the consumption occurs at earlier ages in socialization contexts, so this situation becomes a health problem in Ecuador. For this reason, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between social skills and alcohol consumption in adolescents. The research used a quantitative and correlational approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. A sample of 433 adolescents from 12 to 17 years of age from the four regions of the country was used. This sample was selected in a non-probabilistic way, using the snowball method. Two questionnaires were administered: the Social Skills Scale (EHS) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The results showed a predominance in the low level of social skills and, there were similar values in men and women. A low risk is also evidenced in alcohol consumption, however the non-recommended risk level of alcohol use predominated in women. Finally, an indirect relationship between social skills and alcohol consumption was presented. In conclusion, despite the low risk of alcohol consumption and the management of social skills by adolescent’s participants, these skills seem to be an important protective factor in alcohol consumption.
