The objective of this study was to determine the style of parental socialization that constitutes a higher risk for drug use in adolescents aged 12 to 16 years from an educational institution in the city of Santo Domingo, Ecuador. This study involved 125 male and female adolescents between the ages of 12 and 16 years. A quantitative, descriptive approach was used, with a probability analysis and cross-sectional section. The evaluation instruments used were the Scale of Parental Socialization in Adolescence (ESPA29). and the Interpersonal Risk Factors for Adolescent Drug Use (FRIDA) test. The findings indicate that the authoritarian style used by the mother is the one that in this population presents the highest probability of occurrence of risky behaviors to addiction, as for the father, this happens with the indulgent style. It was also found that the group of friends or peers is a factor that shows vulnerability or risk of the adolescent towards drug use, since it is present in 3 of the 4 styles of parental socialization analyzed in this study.
