INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE IN CISGENDER LGBTQ+ MEXICANS: COMPARISON AMONG SEX AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION

Violence in LGBTQ+ couples has been an invisible problem due to homophobia, discrimination or prejudice, so its impact on the Mexican population has been little explored. Therefore, the objective of this work was to compare the experiences of victimization and perpetration of intimate partner violence based on sex and sexual orientation in a Mexican sample of 285 cisgender people from the LGBTQ+ community. A quantitative, non-experimental and cross-sectional study was conducted in which participants responded to the Dating Violence Questionnaire-R. The results showed that men had greater experiences of victimization and perpetration in almost all types of violence compared to women, while gay men had greater experiences of physical and sexual violence compared to pansexuals and lesbians. The findings are discussed in terms of their possible social implications and various lines of research are provided for the development of future studies on the problem.
