Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between pathological eating behaviors and psychological distress in interdisciplinary dancers in Buenos Aires. The methodological design used was quantitative empirical, descriptive-correlational and cross-sectional. The sample was composed of 198 interdisciplinary dancers between 14 and 40 years old. The instruments administered were the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT) and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (Argentine adaptation). Attitudes towards food related to symptoms and concerns characteristic of eating disorders were low, while psychological distress levels were high. Finally, it was observed that the greater the number of these pathological eating behaviors, the higher the level of psychological distress. The correlation between both was of medium intensity (r = .418; p < .000; n = 198). This highlights the importance of monitoring the presence of distress or overvalued ideas regarding the body or food in these subjects in order to prevent the development of an eating behavior disorder.
