Abstract

Abstract: Family violence is one of the psychosocial problems with the greatest impact worldwide, affecting family members and their quality of life, particularly the development of adolescents. The present investigation had as objective of this research was to evaluate the relationship between family violence and social skills in a group of 250 adolescents from the Baños canton. The study was quantitative, descriptive, correlational and comparative. Its design was non-experimental and cross-sectional, in which non-parametric tests such as Mann Whitney's U and Kruskal Wallis were used on the data collected through the instruments: Family Violence (VIFA), and Social Skills CHASSO III. The results showed that 79.6% of the adolescents presented a medium level of family violence, while 78.4% of them presented a medium level in relation to social skills. It was determined that the relationship between the variables is inverse and not significant (Rho=-.108; p=.088) and likewise, it was found that there is no statistically significant difference in family violence (Mann U -Whitney= 7669.000; p=0.804) and social skills (Mann-Whitney U=7394.000; p=0.309) according to sex. Regarding the type of family, the findings presented the same previous behavior both for family violence (Kruskal-Wallis=0.936; p=0.626) and for social skills (Kruskal-Wallis=1.625; p=0.531). It was concluded that, there is no statistically significant evidence to determine a relationship between the variables analyzed.
