Asymmetries of power and domestic violence in the Province of El Oro

Abstract

The research responds to the problem of intrafamily violence that according to the social constellation of Ecuador, is a protein that mutates from physics to psychic, from real to unreal, and lives in subcutaneous, subcommunicative spaces, in such a way that it is invisible and naturalized in various social fields. The asymmetric exercise of power, generates violence in public and private spheres, increasing exponentially in the country. In recent years 24,376 complaints of intrafamily violence have been recorded; 88% of which are battered women (physical, psychological and sexual) and also receive gender abuse and 22% victims of aggression of men are. In this context, the objective was to, to determine the factors of inequality and domination that affect the intrafamily violence in the Canton of Pasaje. The methodology applied is based on a mixed approach, and an analysis of variables at the exploratory and descriptive level, through the processing and analysis of official statistics with the application of interviews in household where violence has been present. The findings show and conclude that violence is a complex, multi-causal social phenomenon that is unleashed from power relations and that responds to implicit factors of dependence on relationships among a couple.
