Abstract

Abstract: Irrational beliefs, according to the principles of rational emotional therapy, are rigid thoughts that disturb the individual and hinder goals; on the other hand, burnout syndrome is an inadequate response to chronic stress, with symptoms such as extreme fatigue and breakdown in emotional and cognitive processes. The objective of the study was to identify the relationship between irrational beliefs and burnout syndrome in the health personnel of the José María Velasco Ibarra Hospital in the city of Tena in the time of COVID-19. The methodology used was quantitative, non-experimental, correlational and cross-sectional. The Irrational Beliefs Questionnaire (TCI) and Maslasch Burnout Inventory Human Services (MBI-HSS) were applied. The sample consisted of 241 health professionals (28.6% male and 71.4% female), aged 25 to 57 years (X ̅ = 32.70); (Ds = 6.97); all belong to the city of Tena, Napo Province, Ecuador. The result obtained in irrational beliefs with high levels corresponds to problem avoidance. With regard to burnout syndrome, depersonalization and low personal accomplishment present high levels. The relationship between irrational beliefs and burnout syndrome depends on the independent analysis between sublevels. Showing a negative relationship between depersonalization and blaming, and dependency; However, personal fulfillment is linked to high self-expectations, blame, past influence, and perfectionism.
