ADDICTION TO SOCIAL NETWORKS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH SELF-ESTEEM IN ADOLESCENTS

Abstract

Addiction to social networks is one of the problems that affects the adolescent population, which generates maladaptive behaviors accompanied by feelings of frustration, isolation, loss of control and dependency. The objective of this article was to determine the relationship between addiction to social networks and self-esteem in adolescents from the "San Luis Gonzaga" Educational Unit. The methodology used was with a quantitative approach of descriptive scope, correlational, cross-sectional. The collection of information is obtained through the application of the Social Networks Addiction Questionnaire (ARS), which consists of 24 items, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale with 10 items is also used and they are Likert-type scale. We worked with a population of 406 students with the following inclusion criteria: being between 14 and 17 years old, having the consent of the participant and the informed consent of the legal representative. Finally, the results show that there is a negative connection between the factor obsession with being connected to social networks and self-esteem; while, with the factors modification of the state of mind and excessive use of the networks, there is a positive connection with self-esteem.
